During my short visit to Houston I had the opportunity to take 4 lessons offered by Janice. She not only taught me the theory but also the actual practice of body language and communication with regard to the horses. In addition, she managed to give basic riding instructions. The knowledge conveyed by Janice is immeasurable.
Even though I always have loved to deal with animals, Janice taught me a whole new understanding of communication possibilities with them and moreover gave me an awareness of the lessons that horses are able to
teach us.

Her extraordinary ability to work with horses and the theory taught by Janice was heightened by practice when working with her equally extraordinary horse.

Just a note to thank you for all you have done for me. I have learned from you that each person deserves a day in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for. That each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us. Your riding lessons allow me to dispel rancor, transform indecision, and renew my spirit.

I have an 8 yr-old son who is mildy autistic. In the Houston area, waiting lists for some Hippotherapy programs were almost 2 years long! Then I found out about Janice Terra and her experience with autistic and ADD children. She was able to start my son with a riding program and there was no long wait! Within only a few lessons- I could immediately see the difference in my son. His balance and focus have increased and his coordination is improving.

I have a 10 yr old daughter who had severe asthma and bronchitis flare up last fall. She went to the ER 7 times in only a few weeks.

No matter how lousy she felt, and no matter what pain she was in, she loved going to her riding lessons; which I think are more like "Life Lessons". Even if all she did was sit on a horse, she always got more relaxed, breathed better, and felt almost pain-free by the time her lesson time was over.It was amazing to watch the change in only a short period of time. General is certainly a great Healer and we appreciate all he and the other horses have done to help my daughter through the Fall. She is getting much stronger with each lesson. Thanks Janice! Amy A. A female client of mine, whom I shall call Miss K., suffered a minor stroke, which resulted in partial paralysis on one side of her body. Her neurologist recommended that she travel to Moody Gardens in Galveston, which at that time had the closest therapeutic horse program in the area. Miss K. related to me that she told her doctor she did not need to go to Galveston, "I'll just go to Janice's and ride Bobby!" Bobby was an adorable and accommodating large pony that I owned at the time.

Miss K,'s partial paralysis made mounting and riding a full-size horse an impossible task. Her therapy began with her simply being led around on Bobby for short periods of time. At first she could only ride for fifteen minutes. Tears welled up in her eyes as she experienced the frustration of new limitations. Being the champion that she was, they were also tears of exhilaration and determination, for at least she was on a horse, and she knew that she would heal. I am delighted to report that she has totally recovered from her stroke. We both give Bobby much of the credit.

Another client of mine, who had been riding for a while, was diagnosed with lymphoma cancer. He underwent traditional radiation treatment, combined with natural remedies- and he continued to ride. Within five to six months he was in complete remission, and relates that he feels better now than he ever has! I commented to him that I believed one of the reasons for his rapid healing was due to the fact that riding had put his body in more harmony with itself. His response was an emphatic, "Oh, I know it was! No doubt about it!"

Such a perfect Universe have we. Such a kind and loving God, that He gives us companions to help us heal, restore our natural state of balance, and remind us of the bliss and harmony from whence we came.

Last spring I had a child come to me for lessons. The mother mentioned that her child had ADD, and I assured her that it would not be a problem in my lesson program. By Fall, this delightful child had made good progress. Her mother then related to me the following . In the Spring they had a conference with the little girl's teachers and principal, who unanimously felt that it would be in the best interest of the child to hold her back a grade. The tenacious mother begged them, "Please don't. Let me try this one last thing, let me see if these horseback riding lessons will help."

She had read somewhere that "hippotherapy" could help such a situation. The principal and teachers acquiesced, and the child was given another chance. When her next six-month report cards came out, the child had been in lessons for about six months. For the first time in the child's life she made straight "A's", and for the first time she made straight "E's" in conduct. The teachers, principal and even the grandparents could see a huge difference in the child's attitude and confidence level.
The mother told me this story with tears in her eyes, and believe me, it was all I could do to keep my tears intact as I learned how my "guys" (as I call my horses) had made such a difference in this child's life.
